Gardening for Butterflies

Saturday, May 24th from 10 to 3pm at the Marin Art & Garden Center, 30 Sir Francis Drake Boulevard in Ross

Come learn how to ID species, and some interesting facts about each one; also discuss Lepidopteran biology and the important associations these insects have developed with certain plants. Enjoy a "slide show tour" through a year of butterflies commonly seen in the Bay Area and tour the Habitat gardens at MAGC to learn about the simple elements necessary to create a successful Butterfly Garden. Taught by Charlotte Torgovitsky, Garden Education Manager at the Marin Art & Garden Center.

Cost is $45.

Tule Twined Basket
Outdoors at the Garden Demo Area
Saturday, June 14 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Each student will make one or more lightweight baskets using several different weaves, and suitable for holding fruit or gathering berries.

Rush Twined Basket
Outdoors at the Garden Demo Area
Saturday, June 21 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Each student will make a basket using one of a variety of starts, and incorporate several different weaves and a colored pattern. We will use whole stem rush (Juncus).

Small Willow Twined Basket
Outdoors at the Garden Demo Area
Saturday, June 28 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Each student will make a small basket using peeled and unpeeled native willow stems, with a Pomo-style rim.
