Environmental Education


The Marin Art and Garden Center's Environmental Education Program is part of the Center’s mission to promote awareness of nature and understanding of ecological systems. Through the use of demonstration gardens as educational sites, children and adults explore the importance of habitat, conservation and stewardship.

This all volunteer-run program of tours and activities include:

 
Composting demonstrations Led by the UCCE Marin Master Gardeners, learn composting techniques: one and three bin, pile and vermiculture (worms)
 
Native plant garden The importance of indigenous plants, their uses and historical significance
 
Low-water use garden Beautiful landscapes with drought-resistant plants with drip irrigation
 
Native Medicinal herb garden Background of homeopathic herbs and their historical significance
 
Butterfly/Habitat Garden The importance of creating habitat for native wildlife, butterflies and other beneficial insects
 
Riparian restoration project Techniques to prevent erosion, improve water quality and promote healthy creeks (County Creek Naturalist, Liz Lewis, leads children and adults)
